"NOOOOO you can't leave us like that!"

I heard that this week from a team member in a growing practice. For just a second, I'll admit...it felt good to hear. Every consultant wants to know their work made a difference.

But after I thought about it, I realized something. My real goal was never to become indispensable. My goal was to make sure they didn't need me every day.

Many dentists believe leadership means having all the answers. Many office managers believe leadership means solving every problem. Neither is sustainable. Real leadership looks different. It creates systems. It builds confidence. It develops other leaders.

Success isn't when everyone depends on you.

Healthy leadership means building people who can think, decide, and lead with confidence - even when you are not in the room.

A compass doesn't carry the travelers. It provides direction.
